At Ashwell Playgroup, learning through play is at the centre of all we do.
Following the national guidelines set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage we cover all areas of learning, helping children to stay safe, be healthy and most importantly to enjoy and achieve.
Our well trained highly motivated team offers a wide range of play activities both indoors and out helping children to develop communication skills, early numeracy, physical skills and to build relationships with others.
Each child is valued as an individual and with the help with their keyworker and in the moment planning they are allowed to develop at their own pace.
Ashwell Playgroup has been running since 1975 and is a registered charity, run by a committee of parents in partnership with paid staff. It is registered with Ofsted and is a member of the Pre-School Learning Alliance. We collaborate with other Early Years practitioners including Gloria’s Day Nursery and Holly Blue Children’s Centre, and have a close working relationship with Ashwell School to support a smooth transition from Playgroup to Nursery.
In the Moment Planning
In the moment planning is all about capturing a child’s current interests at that particular time,
There is no need to plan in advance as the forn of planning is based on what the child is doing and practitioners need to interact with the child to build on what the child is already doing (in the moment).
Practitioners need the necessary skills to identify a child;s interest and know when to intervene and help a child’s development move on.
We plan to evaluate day to day rather than week to week and there will be no themes although we will still incorporate things like Christmas and Mothers day,
Core areas of learnign will cover :
- SMALL WORD
- HOME CORNER
- STORY CORNER
Ashwell Playgroup is open to all two and three year old children from the local community. In the event of being oversubscribed, we will give priority to children from Ashwell and the connected villages of Bygrave, Newnham, Odsey, Hinxworth and Edworth and children with special educational needs. We reserve the right to keep spaces available for in-year admissions for children from the above villages on our list.
Children between the ages of two and four are eligible to attend for Playgroup. They can attend from the start of the next half term after their second birthday. The majority of children move on to Ashwell School nursery for their preschool year. In very special exceptions, Playgroup may allow a child to stay for the preschool year.
For the September/October intake, we strongly encourage applications to be submitted by the end of the preceding May. Applications received by then should get their preferred sessions and will be informed of their session dates by the end of June. Applications can be submitted at other times but preferred sessions cannot be guaranteed.
Places are given on the basis of age, not date of application.
Places will be allocated at the discretion of the committee and in accordance to our staffing levels, financial viability and statutory child/adult ratio requirements for each age group.
